The Racecourse Road Carnival is on again this year, with a new look and theme. This iconic festival was one of the first to be held in Brisbane and has a long and illustrious history.

Racecourse Road is a lovely tree-lined boulevard, which runs through the heart of the historic suburbs of Ascot and Hamilton in Brisbane. The street will be closed to traffic from Lancaster to Windermere Roads.

The Carnival brings our community together – to celebrate Queensland’s amazing food and wine, and our fascinating local history. It is held in Queensland Week and during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

  • Ascot and Hamilton have so many stories to tell. From the very early days when the “racetrack” was an unsealed Kingsford Smith Drive and the winners were announced from the first floor of the old Hamilton Hotel. Or the day 3000 American troops marched up Racecourse Road to a tent city in Eagle Farm Racecourse, or the trams that used to go down the middle of Racecourse Road and the deck chair seating in the old cinema that used to be where Woolworths is now.

Some of the best examples of our unique domestic architecture are on Hamilton Hill. There are many mansions remaining and many wonderful stories of the families and prominent people who lived in them.

Bretts Wharf was built in 1929 by the Brett family to export their timber, and though far from beauteous it became Brisbane cruise ship terminal for 60 years.

  • You are invited to complete an application to have a stall at the 2012 Racecourse Road Carnival, which is to be held on:

    Sunday 3rd June 2012 (9am-4pm)

With an expected attendance of at least 25,000 people, free entry, and lots of entertainment you can expect a very profitable day.

Loud Events and Stalls Convener Llyn Miller have organised the logistics for other Racecourse Road festivals, and we expect a smooth bump in and bump out. Llyn will be on her mobile all day and Loud Event staff will be on walkie talkies.
